PG: Week: Two Daily Devo

Marriage: Perfect Design
Daily Devotion based on sermon preached by Greg Ballog, 8/10/25

Each day there is a daily topic. Journal or, if you're married, discuss these topics with your spouse.

Day 1: The Purpose of Marriage

Opening Prayer:
Heavenly Father, thank You for the gift of life and for the divine institution of marriage. Help us to understand Your perfect design for us. Amen.

Scripture Reading:
Colossians 1:16

Daily Topic:
Understanding Marriage as God's Creation
Explore how marriage is part of God's creation and design, intended for His glory.

Life Application:
Reflect on how your marriage or future marriage can bring glory to God. Consider actions that demonstrate God’s love and creativity.

Closing Prayer:
Lord, guide us to honor You in our relationships and reflect Your love through our actions. Amen.

Day 2: The Role of a Helper

Opening Prayer:
Gracious God, open our hearts to embrace the roles You have designed for us within marriage. Amen.

Scripture Reading:
Genesis 2:15-25

Daily Topic:
The Meaning of a Helper (Ezer Kenegdo)
Think about the importance and strength found in being a helper suitable for one another.

Life Application:
Identify ways you can actively support and strengthen your spouse today, using your unique gifts and strengths.

Closing Prayer:
If you're married: Father, help us to be helpers to each other, supporting and loving with strength and grace. Amen.
If you're not yet married: Father, prepare me to be the helper my future spouse needs and prepare that person to be equipped to be a cherished helper for me.

Day 3: The Call to Unity

Opening Prayer:
Lord, draw us nearer to You as we seek unity in our partnerships. Amen.

Scripture Reading:
Ephesians 5:31, Genesis 2:24

Daily Topic:
Becoming One Flesh
Examine the deeper meaning of becoming one flesh and the commitment it requires.

Life Application:
Write a personal reflection on what it means to become 'one' with your spouse, and identify any barriers to this unity in your relationship.

Closing Prayer:
If you're married: God, unify our hearts and minds as we strive to become one in You. Amen.
If you're unmarried: God, prepare my heart today for the unity that will be required when I'm married. Use current relationships in my life to teach me the value of unity.

Day 4: The Call to Selflessness

Opening Prayer:
Dear Lord, teach us the beauty of selflessness and sacrifice in our marriages. Amen.

Scripture Reading:
Ephesians 5:22-33

Daily Topic:
Emulating Christ’s Love in Marriage
Consider selflessness as shown by Jesus and how it applies to marriage.

Life Application:
Perform a selfless act for your spouse today, something that prioritizes their need over your own desires.  If you're not married, practice selflessness with a friend or co-worker.

Closing Prayer:
Jesus, help us to willingly love and serve each other, just as You love the Church. Amen.

Day 5: Marriage as a Reflection of Eternity

Opening Prayer:
Holy Spirit, prepare our hearts to see our marriages as preparation for eternity. Amen.

Scripture Reading:
Matthew 19:5, Ephesians 5:31

Daily Topic:
Marriage: Preparation for Eternity
Analyze how marriage challenges and sanctifies us, preparing us for eternal life.

Life Application:
Discuss with your spouse or journal how you can work together to grow spiritually and prepare for eternity.

Closing Prayer:
God of eternity, sanctify our marriage, and let our lives reflect Your eternal love. Amen.
If you're unmarried: God, I know I don't need to be married to grow spiritually. Each day, teach me to love you more and help me to abide in your love.
