Seeking God's Wisdom--Dangers of Going It Alone
Sermon from Sunday, June 22, 2025
Daily Devo
Day 1: Seeking God’s Guidance
**Opening Prayer:**
Heavenly Father, we come before You, seeking Your wisdom and guidance in our lives. Open our hearts to be receptive to Your counsel. Amen.
**Scripture Reading:** Joshua 9:14 - "So the men of Israel took some of their provisions, and did not ask for the counsel of the LORD."
**Daily Topic for Consideration:**
Reflect on the importance of seeking God's guidance in decisions. Consider times when making decisions without praying for guidance led to challenges. Acknowledge the need to involve God in our daily decisions.
**Journaling Exercise:**
Write about a recent decision you made. Did you seek God’s counsel, and how did it affect the outcome? If not, how might God's guidance have changed the process or results?
**Closing Prayer:**
Lord, teach us to pause and seek Your counsel in all our choices. Help us to rely not on our understanding, but on Your infinite wisdom. Amen.
---
Day 2: The Power of Community
**Opening Prayer:**
Gracious God, build us into a community that listens to Your voice and supports one another in faith. Amen.
**Scripture Reading:** 1 Peter 5:8 - "Be of sober spirit, be on the alert."
**Daily Topic for Consideration:**
Discuss the strength found in community and the danger of going through life alone as highlighted by the Gibeonites' deception. Contemplate how leaning into a faith community can provide guidance and support.
**Journaling Exercise:**
Reflect on how being part of a community has impacted your spiritual journey. Write about a time when community support or advice was crucial for you.
**Closing Prayer:**
Father, surround us with a community that encourages us to follow Your path. May we find strength and wisdom through the counsel of others. Amen.
---
Day 3: Learning from Mistakes
**Opening Prayer:**
Lord, grant us the humility to learn from our past errors and the courage to change. Amen.
**Scripture Reading:** Proverbs 14:12 - "There is a way which seems right to a man, but its end is the way of death."
**Daily Topic for Consideration:**
Reflect on the mistakes Israel made by not consulting God, and consider how God’s grace allows us to learn from errors. Discuss the importance of humility in recognizing and correcting our mistakes.
**Journaling Exercise:**
Think about a mistake you’ve made and what you’ve learned from it. Write about how this learning experience has shaped you and how you might approach a similar situation in the future.
**Closing Prayer:**
God, give us the wisdom to learn from our missteps, and guide us toward making better choices in the future. Forgive us when we stray from Your path. Amen.
---
Day 4: Embracing God’s Wisdom
**Opening Prayer:**
Almighty God, fill us with Your wisdom so we can live lives that honor you. Amen.
**Scripture Reading:** Proverbs 3:5 - "Trust in the LORD with all your heart and do not lean on your own understanding."
**Daily Topic for Consideration:**
Explore the significance of acknowledging the limits of our own understanding and embracing God’s wisdom. Discuss practical ways to ask for and receive God’s guidance in daily life.
**Journaling Exercise:**
List areas in your life where you struggle to trust God completely. Write a prayer asking for greater trust and for the wisdom to discern His guidance in those areas.
**Closing Prayer:**
Lord, we acknowledge our reliance on You for wisdom. Teach us to trust in Your plan for our lives fully. Amen.
---
Day 5: Living Out God’s Will
**Opening Prayer:**
Dear God, help us to live out your will by loving You and our neighbors wholeheartedly. Amen.
**Scripture Reading:** James 1:5 - "But if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all generously and without reproach, and it will be given to him."
**Daily Topic for Consideration:**
Meditate on how God’s will is for us to love Him and our neighbors. Reflect on C.S. Lewis' idea that finding God’s plan isn’t complicated when we focus on love. Contemplate "pausing before acting" and "cross-checking advice."
**Journaling Exercise:**
Describe what living out God's will looks like for you. Consider how you can practically love God with all your heart and soul, and love your neighbor as yourself. Set one goal to work on this week.
**Closing Prayer:**
Heavenly Father, guide us to live authentically in Your will. Help us to love and serve others with joy and humility as we seek Your presence daily. Amen.
