Daily Devo--Essentials: Inerrancy & Infallibility

5 Day Devotional
Based on a sermon preached by Mike Johnson on 11/16/25

5-DAY DEVOTIONAL STUDY GUIDE
“Why the Bible Is Truly God’s Word”
DAY 1 — CHILDLIKE FAITH IN A GROWN-UP WORLD
Scripture:
Matthew 18:3
2 Timothy 3:14–15
Theme:
Why faith comes naturally to children but becomes complicated for adults.
Teaching:
As children, we believe the stories of Scripture without hesitation — Jonah, Daniel, the burning bush, the Red Sea. Children don’t wrestle with skepticism. They trust, not because they understand every detail, but because they trust the One who tells the story.
But as we grow older, life gets heavier. Pain, disappointment, cultural pressure, and intellectual pride all work together to make us question what was once simple.
Doubt is not always the enemy. Sometimes it reveals where God wants to deepen our faith. The danger comes when doubt pushes us away from God instead of toward Him.
Reflection Questions:
  1. What Bible story did you believe easily as a child?
  2. What changed that made faith harder as you grew older?
  3. Where might God be using doubt to invite you into deeper trust?
Prayer:
“Lord, restore in me a childlike trust. Where doubt has grown, use it to draw me closer to You, not farther away.”

DAY 2 — CAN THE BIBLE REALLY BE TRUSTED?
Scripture:
2 Timothy 3:16–17
Psalm 119:160
Theme:
Why the accuracy of Scripture matters.
Teaching:
“All Scripture is inspired by God.”
This means God signs His name on every page. If God is perfect, His Word must reflect His character.
Imagine your bank saying, “This statement is 100% accurate,” but you find one mistake. Immediately the whole document loses credibility. One error makes the entire thing untrustworthy.
In the same way, if even one part of the Bible is false, we lose confidence in all of it. Either God speaks truth, or He doesn’t. Either He protects His Word, or He doesn’t.
This is why biblical accuracy is not a side issue — it is foundational.
Reflection Questions:
  1. What makes it difficult for some people to trust the Bible today?
  2. Why is it dangerous to trust only certain parts of Scripture?
  3. Where do you see the culture challenging biblical authority?
Prayer:
“Father, strengthen my confidence in Your Word. Help me trust that every part of it is true and good.”

DAY 3 — JESUS’ VIEW OF SCRIPTURE
Scripture:
John 5:17–18
Matthew 19:4–5
John 14:26; 16:13
Theme:
We believe Scripture because we trust Jesus.
Teaching:
Jesus claimed to be God — and proved it. Because of that, His view of Scripture becomes the foundation of our view of Scripture.
Jesus affirmed the Old Testament as God’s Word.
And He promised the New Testament through the Holy Spirit guiding His apostles.
If Jesus is God… then what He believed about Scripture matters more than anyone else’s opinion.
It means:
• The Old Testament is trustworthy because Jesus said so.
• The New Testament is trustworthy because Jesus sent the Spirit to deliver it.
• The entire Bible carries the authority of the Son of God.
Reflection Questions:
  1. Why is Jesus’ endorsement of Scripture so important?
  2. How does Jesus’ promise about the Holy Spirit strengthen your confidence in the New Testament?
  3. Which teaching of Jesus do you most rely on for confidence in the Bible?
Prayer:
“Jesus, You are the Truth. Help me trust Scripture because I trust You.”

DAY 4 — THE RESURRECTION: GOD’S PROOF
Scripture:
1 Corinthians 15:3–8
Romans 1:4
Matthew 12:40
Theme:
The resurrection validates everything Jesus said.
Teaching:
Jesus predicted His resurrection as the ultimate proof that He is God. Through history, even secular scholars agree:
• Jesus was crucified
• He was buried
• His tomb was found empty
• His followers believed they saw Him alive
• Their lives were radically changed
• Christianity exploded from Jerusalem outward
If the resurrection is true, then:
• Jesus is who He claimed to be
• Jesus’ teaching is true
• Jesus’ view of Scripture is true
• The Bible is trustworthy from beginning to end
The entire authority of Scripture rests on the reality of the resurrection.
Reflection Questions:
  1. What part of the resurrection evidence strengthens your faith most?
  2. How does the resurrection reinforce the truthfulness of the Bible?
  3. What doubts about Scripture fade when you focus on Jesus’ resurrection?
Prayer:
“Lord, thank You that the resurrection is historical and powerful. Let it anchor my confidence in every word You have spoken.”

DAY 5 — INERRANT. INFALLIBLE. AND LIFE-GIVING.
Scripture:
Psalm 19:7–11
Matthew 7:24–25
James 1:22–25
Theme:
The Bible is not only true — it never fails.
Teaching:
The Bible is inerrant — everything the biblical authors intended to communicate is true.
But it is also infallible — it will never fail you when you obey it.
We often believe the Bible is true but struggle to believe it will actually work in real life:
• Forgiveness feels unsafe.
• Generosity feels risky.
• Purity feels impossible.
• Obedience feels costly.
Yet every time we choose our own way instead of God’s, we end up in frustration — just like ignoring a GPS that is always right.
The Bible is not just something to believe…
It is something to follow.
And when we follow it, it leads to life.
Reflection Questions:
  1. Where do you most struggle to trust that God’s way will work?
  2. What command do you know but hesitate to obey?
  3. How would your life change if you treated Scripture as truly infallible?
Prayer:
“God, Your Word is perfect and unfailing. Help me trust it, obey it, and experience the abundant life that comes from walking in Your truth.”
